ABOUT Somerset church of Christ

Can we know about the church that Jesus promised to build (see Mat. 16:16-18)?   There are so many different religious groups today and there is a lot of confusion.    God's word clarifies!

OUR VISION

The Somerset church of Christ is a group of people who desire to praise God.  We want to live in a way in which God is glorified.   Our goal in life is to live as citizens of Heaven should live, though we are presently living on earth.

The Somerset church of Christ is composed of  Christians, simply striving to live as Christians. We are a spiritual organization solely committed to assisting our fellows with their spiritual needs.  Since our goals are spiritual, you will not find party rooms, social organizations, nor political enterprises here.   We leave that to the many notable joint efforts of our community families, schools and organizations.  Rather, in a difficult world, our goals are to assist anyone to find a genuine solace that only God can supply. We read in the Bible that Jesus built His church to make known the beauty of God's wisdom in the salvation that Jesus accomplishes through His blood (Acts 20:28).  We are all about helping each person find that godly and righteous life, in living according to Biblical precept.

Can We Understand God's Word Alike?

WHAT WE DO

The Somerset church of Christ seeks to encourage one another in spiritual enjoyments.   God has revealed in His word all that we need to obtain spiritual life and godliness in this world (2 Peter 1:3)..  We endeavor to help one another in toward these goals.

Since all men are made in God’s Image (Genesis 1:27), man’s basic needs have never changed.  He has made known how to serve Him for our own happiness (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14).

No matter the turmoil, God has provided us the way to a joyful hope for tomorrow!  It is the same wonderful gospel message that was preached 2,000 years ago.  What joy to know that one truly has forgiveness of sins!  What joy to have a fellowship with others in the grace of God to a living hope (1 Peter 4:11-15)!

If you visit the Somerset church of Christ, you will find a group of people who truly enjoy the spiritual life.   We seek to help any who desire to find a lasting joy as we live for God in this life.

OUR COMMUNITY

  • The Somerset church of Christ building is located downtown, a few blocks off of East Mount Vernon, in the heart of Somerset, Kentucky.

  • We believe that God's principles help us to be the best friends.  These same principles also make the best of us in families, as fathers, mothers and children (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16,17).

  • The principles of God give us the greatest joy in all of life's endeavors.

  • As a community service, our work is free and non-members are never solicited for contributions.

  • We encourage honest investigation of our congregation.   We are energetic in teaching that precious message of salvation to as many as will hear (Luke 8:8ff; Romans 1:16,17)!   So, we hope you will visit us or write.  Please take opportunity to chat with us, at your leisure.  We add to the website continually and we hope you will come back often!

I may misunderstand the Bible, and you may understand the Bible.  I may understand the Bible and you may misunderstand the Bible (or we both may even misunderstand it "alike").  But we both cannot understand the Bible AND see it differently.   What kind of God would God be that gave us a Bible that said something to you that it didn't say to me?  God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor. 14:33).

THE WAY OF SALVATION

FIND YOUR FAITH

The way of salvation has never changed since Jesus gave His great commission to the apostles. It was preached by Peter on the first Pentecost after the resurrection of Jesus. Thereafter, example after example, in the book of Acts, leaves no doubt what the Lord commands of us today.  Our own faith must be established upon the word of God (Rom. 10:17).

The GOSPEL is the power of God unto salvation (Rom. 1:16). Those who are Christians are commanded to teach the gospel to all nations (Matt. 28:18-19, Mark 16:15).

This Gospel teaches us to BELIEVE that Jesus is the Son of God (Mark 16:16). There is no other name under heaven whereby men must be saved (Acts 4:12).

This kind of belief is to lead men to REPENT of their past sins (Luke 24:46-47; Acts 2:38). This is brought about by learning of the goodness of God and seeing our own lost condition (Rom. 2:4).  It should be easy to see that neither the individual, who does not believe in Jesus, nor the one who will not repent, are ready to be servants of God. Therefore, God will not forgive them of their sins.

The truly penitent must CONFESS that Jesus is the Son of God (Acts 8:29-39; Rom. 10:10). Jesus also stated that if we confess Him before men, He will confess us before His Father. If we deny Him, He will deny us (Matt. 10:32-33).

Saving faith (Heb. 10:39) requires obedience to God (examples of Hebrews 11) including being BAPTIZED (immersed) for the forgiveness of our sins (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38, 22:16; Rom. 6:1-11; Gal. 3:27-28).

Then, BE FAITHFUL (Romans 12:1,2) even if it requires DEATH (Rev. 2:10).

The Hebrew writer suggested that there is a "faith" to the "saving" of the soul (Heb. 10:39). It will not be a faith like that of the demons who believe so much in God, that they tremble (James 2:19).  Rather it will be a faith as described by the live of all those faithful described in Hebrews 11.   It will be a faith like that described of Abraham, who showed his strong belief in God by following the wishes of God in his life (James 2:24ff)
